GRIPdigital Centurfax CCDot4 DotMeter Measures Both Physical and
Optical Dot
For Immediate Release
Western Springs, IL, January 2001 —The Centurfax CCDot4 DotMeter—distributed
exclusively in North and South America by GRIPdigital—includes
software which measures both the true physical dot and the true
optical (or visual) dot. When used in digital workflows involving
the production of plates and proofs, the feature eliminates problems
created by dotmeters which calculate dot area values based on logarithmic
estimates. In discussing the unique feature, GRIPdigital president
and color expert Greg Imhoff commented: “Adding a percentage
value to all halftone dots, as most dotmeters do, only contributes
to printing problems. For example, adding 15 percent to both a 50
percent dot and a 10 percent dot means that different dot densities
are being treated differently. The Centurfax software routinely
measures both true physical and true visual values simultaneously,
and applies appropriate percentages across the plate or proof. This
is especially important when thermal platesetters are used, and
Centurfax CCDot4 DotMeter users are able to match plate to proof
much more accurately than can users of other dotmeters.”
The Centurfax CCDot4 DotMeter was introduced at DRUPA 2000, and
is now available in North and South America.
